April 30, 2008 Women's HealthApril 30, 2008 - Women's HealthWomen's health emerged as a focal point of the liberation movement in the 1970s. At that time medical practitioners were critized for failing to address the multifaceted health needs of women, ignoring alternative and complimentary practices and even ignoring the expressed needs of the patients themselves. The Women's Health Initiative formed a little over a year ago with the initial purpose of investigating the possibility of a Whole Health Center with a focus on women’s health. On Saturday, May 17 the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) will host the first Midcoast Maine Women’s Health Conference Celebrating Women; Body, Mind and Spirit from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. WERU is a media partner in this event. Join us on Common Health on Wednesday, April 30 as we gain a better understanding of the underserved needs of coastal Maine women while Celebrating Women: Body, Mind and Spirit. We invite your calls and email with questions and comments. Guest:
