July 18, 2007 Community Care - Reaching Out to People in NeedIt hasn’t been all that long that the word “underserved” has crept into our vocabulary. In this hyper-competitive economy there are few guidelines defining basic services that we consider a right as Americans. Rights are called entitlements, recipients stigmatized and services lost in a bureaucratic maze. Many are socialized to know little about health care services that they may need and discouraged from pursuing help, even when their lives depend on it. The MDI Community Care Project has been working for two years to bridge the literal and figurative gulf between a health care system that has limited resources and an underserved population not knowing where to turn for help. Join our dialogue on about reaching out to people in need with health care programs that make a difference on Wednesday, July 18th at 10:00 AM. We invite your calls and email with questions, comments and personal stories about substance abuse and ways we can prevent it. Audio Archives
