Common Health Upcoming Programs:*** Third Wednesday of the Month 10:00 - 11:00 AM ***January 18: Sustaining Social Networks in Aging and Rural Communities Connecting with community nurtures the individual and maintains essential services in rural Maine. Rapid rates of migration, an aging society and fiscal woes have driven many of our essential rural service to the brink of collapse. Join our dialogue about strategies to build social networks for everything from fire departments to soup kitchens. Join us for the annual homelessness marathon. February is a tough month in Maine if you have no home or lack resources to heat your home. We'll be talking about the current state of homelessness and borderline homelessness in Maine. We're celebrating National Poison Awareness Week with a dive into the many ways we get into trouble with toxic chemicals, pharmacueticals, lawn products, you name it. Our homes are veritable warehouses of hazardous materials. We'll hear about some common poison hotline calls and how to deal with a crisis. We'll assess what we have in our homes, what we should unload and how. We'll also look at green alternatives. April 18: Writing a Regional Public Health Plan The Maine Center for Disease Control and regional Healthy Maine Partnerships are in the final stage of writing regional strategic health plans. This is the culmination of a multi-year effort to set public health priorities. Join us as we delve into the enourmity of health needs in Maine.
